STATE AID SCHEME FOR LARGE INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS
The European Commission has approved the Romanian Government’s plan to partially compensate large industrial consumers for the increase in electricity prices generated by a seven-fold increase in the the cost of CO2 emissions. The system will cover the period 2019-2020 and has a budget of approximately EUR 291 million (1.397 billion lei).
An estimated 170 companies will benefit from this state aid scheme, which will partially reimburse them for the indirect costs generated under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The state aid has an intensity of 75% and is granted in the form of direct subsidies from the state budget to the beneficiaries. Eligible companies have to apply within 7 days of the entry into force of the Government Emergency Ordinance to access the state aid scheme for 2019.
